milky ways--Scientists Now Know: We're Not From Here!!

Scientists Now Know: We're Not From Here!
Summary & comments by Dan Eden for Viewzone
Imagine the shock of growing up in a loving family with people you call "Mum" and "Dad" and then, suddenly, learning that you are actually adopted!
This same sense of shock came as scientists announced that the Sun, the Moon, our planet and its siblings, were not born into the familiar band of stars known as the Milky Way galaxy, but we actually belong to a strange formation with the unfamiliar name of the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy!
How can this be?
Using volumes of data from the Two-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS), a major project to survey the sky in infrared light led by the University of Massachusetts, the astronomers are answering questions that have baffled scientists for decades and proving that our own Milky Way is consuming one of its neighbors in a dramatic display of ongoing galactic cannibalism. The study published in the Astrophysical Journal, is the first to map the full extent of the Sagittarius galaxy and show in visually vivid detail how its debris wraps around and passes through our Milky Way. Sagittarius is 10,000 times smaller in mass than the Milky Way, so it is getting stretched out, torn apart and gobbled up by the bigger Milky Way.

A new infra red digital survey of the entire sky was made in 2003. Teams from the universities of Virginia and Massachusetts used a supercomputer to sort through half a billion stars to create a -- NEW STAR MAP showing our Solar System (yellow circle) to be at the exact nexus crossroads where two galaxies are actually joining.
"It's clear who's the bully in the interaction," said Steven Majewski, U.Va. professor of astronomy and lead author on the paper describing the results.
"If people had infrared-sensitive eyes, the entrails of Sagittarius would be a prominent fixture sweeping across our sky," Majewski said. "But at human, visual wavelengths, they become buried among countless intervening stars and obscuring dust. The great expanse of the Sagittarius system has been hidden from view."
Not any more. By using infrared maps, the astronomers filtered away millions of foreground stars to focus on a type of star called an M giant. These large, infrared-bright stars are populous in the Sagittarius galaxy but uncommon in the outer Milky Way. The 2MASS infrared map of M giant stars analyzed by Majewski and collaborators is the first to give a complete view of the Milky Way galaxy's meal of Sagittarius stars, now wrapping like a spaghetti noodle around the Milky Way. Prior to this work, astronomers had detected only a few scattered pieces of the disrupted Sagittarius dwarf. Even the existence of Sagittarius was unknown until the heart of this nearest satellite galaxy of the Milky Way was discovered by a British team of astronomers in 1994.
Here's an animation of the "marriage".
The fact that the Milky Way is seen in the sky at an angle has always puzzled astronomers. If we originated from the Milky Way, we ought to be oriented to the galaxy's ecliptic, with the planets aligned around our Sun in much the same angle as our Sun aligns with the Milky Way. Instead, as first suggested by researcher Matthew Perkins Erwin, the odd angle suggests that our Sun is influenced by some other system. Together with data from the Two-Micron All Sky Survey we now know what it is. We actually belong to the Sagittarius Dwarf galaxy.
"We sifted several thousand interesting stars from a catalog of half a billion," said co-author Michael Skrutskie, U.Va. professor of astronomy and principal investigator for the 2MASS project. "By tuning our maps of the sky to the 'right' kind of star, the Sagittarius system jumped into view."

We are from another galaxy in the process of joining with the Milky Way. The Milky Way is actually not our parent galaxy. The mystery of why the Milky Way has always been sideways in the night sky has never been answered -- until now.
"This first full-sky map of Sagittarius shows its extensive interaction with the Milky Way," Majewski said. "Both stars and star clusters now in the outer parts of the Milky Way have been 'stolen' from Sagittarius as the gravitational forces of the Milky Way nibbled away at its dwarf companion. This one vivid example shows that the Milky Way grows by eating its smaller neighbors."
The study's map of M giants depicts 2 billion years of Sagittarius stripping by the Milky Way, and suggests that Sagittarius has reached a critical phase in what had been a slow dance of death.
"After slow, continuous gnawing by the Milky Way, Sagittarius has been whittled down to the point that it cannot hold itself together much longer," said 2MASS Science Team member and study co-author Martin Weinberg of the University of Massachusetts. "We are seeing Sagittarius at the very end of its life as an intact system."
Does this mean we are at a unique moment in the life of our galaxy? Yes and no.
"Whenever possible, astronomers appeal to the principle that we are not at a special time or place in the universe," Majewski said. "Because over the 14 billion-year history of the Milky Way it is unlikely that we would just happen to catch a brief event like the death of Sagittarius, we infer that such events must be common in the life of big spiral galaxies like our own. The Milky Way probably dined on a number of dwarf galaxy snacks in the past."
On the other hand, Majewski and his colleagues have been surprised by the Earth's proximity to a portion of the Sagittarius debris.
"For only a few percent of its 240 million-year orbit around the Milky Way galaxy does our Solar System pass through the path of Sagittarius debris," Majewski said. "Remarkably, stars from Sagittarius are now raining down onto our present position in the Milky Way. Stars from an alien galaxy are relatively near us. We have to re-think our assumptions about the Milky Way galaxy to account for this contamination."
The new findings will help astronomers measure the total mass of the Milky Way and Sagittarius galaxies, and probe the quantity and distribution of the invisible dark matter in these systems.
"The shape of the Sagittarius debris trail shows us that the Milky Way's unseen dark matter is in a spherical distribution, a result that is quite unexpected," Weinberg said.
"The observations provide new insights into the nature of the mysterious dark matter," said Princeton's Spergel. "Either our galaxy is unusual or the dark matter has richer properties than postulated by conventional models."
Implications in Global Warming?
It has been postulated that this is the real reason for both global warming since higher energy levels of the Milky Way are almost certain to cause our Sun to burn hotter and emit higher energies. Indeed, temperatures have been seen to rise on virtually all the planets in our system. This seems quite apart from any local phenomenon like greenhouse gases etc.
This grand turning is possibly the root cause for the discontinuation of the Mayan calendar (the most accurate on the planet) because the 'read-point' of the Pleiades star cluster, which many believe the calendar was based upon, can no longer be a constant as we begin to steer away from the earlier predictable movements.

Other changes happening in our system
The "marriage" of our birth galaxy with our new adopted Milky Way galaxy is causing energy shifts that are obvious just about everywhere. Here are some changes being watched by scientists:
* A growth of dark spots on Pluto.
* Reporting of auroras on Saturn.
* Reporting of Uranus and Neptune polar shifts (They are magnetically conjugate planets), and the abrupt large-scale growth of Uranus' magnetosphere intensity.
* A change in light intensity and light spot dynamics on Neptune.
* The doubling of the magnetic field intensity on Jupiter (based upon 1992 data), and a series of new states and processes observed on this planet as an aftermath of a series of explosions in July 1994 [caused by "Comet" SL-9]. That is, a relaxation of a plasmoid train which excited the Jovian magnetosphere, thus inducing excessive plasma generation and it's release in the same manner as Solar coronal holes inducing an appearance of radiation belt brightening in decimeter band (13.2 and 36 cm), and the appearance of large auroral anomalies and a change of the Jupiter - Io system of currents.

Update Note: A stream of ionized hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, etc. is being directed to Jupiter from the volcanic areas of Io through a one million amperes flux tube. It is affecting the character of Jupiter's magnetic process and intensifying it's plasma genesis.[Z.I.Vselennaya "Earth and Universe" N3, 1997 plo-9 by NASA data]
* A series of Martian atmosphere transformations increasing its biosphere quality. In particularly, a cloudy growth in the equator area and an unusual growth of ozone concentration.

Update Note: Mars Surveyor Satellite encountered an atmospheric density double that projected by NASA upon entering a Mars orbit. This greater density bent one of the solar array arms beyond the full and open stop. This combination of events has delayed the beginning of the scheduled photo mission for one year.
* A first stage atmosphere generation on the Moon, where a growing natrium atmosphere is detected that reaches 9,000 km in height.
* Significant physical, chemical and optical changes observed on Venus; an inversion of dark and light spots detected for the first time, and a sharp decrease of sulfur-containing gases in its atmosphere.
* A Change in the Quality of Interplanetary Space Towards an Increase in Its Interplanetary and Solar-Planetary Transmitting Properties.
When speaking of new energetic and material qualities of interplanetary space, we must first point out the increase of the interplanetary domains energetic charge, and level of material saturation. This change of the typical mean state of interplanetary space has two main causes:
* The supply/inflow of matter from interstellar space. (Radiation material, ionized elements, and combinations.)
* The after effects of Solar Cycle 22 activity, especially as a result of fast coronal mass ejection's [CME's] of magnetized solar plasmas.
What does it all mean?
We of the overarching Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy have finally come down next to, and even with the massively powerful spiral armed equatorial plane of the Milky Way Galaxy.
In our movement through space, our Earth has now fully begun to respond to the more powerful galactic energies and electro-gravitational bias of the massive Milky Way. We have reached the higher energy equatorial disc region of the massive spiral arm. We have now been "adopted" by a new system, a stronger and more powerful system, and we can expect changes on almost every level of energy.
Whatever these changes are, they are all part of the natural birth, death, rebirth and transformation of the cosmos. As our knowledge of the universe grows, we cannot but understand how much we do not understand. Such is life.

Change The World

by Eric Clapton

If I could reach the stars, I'd pull one down for you
Shine it on my heart, so you could see the truth
That this love I have inside, is everything it seems
But for now I find, it's only in my dreams

That I can change the world
I would be the sunlight in your universe
You would think my love was really something good
Baby, if I could, change the world

If I could be king, even for a day
I'd take you as my queen, I'd have it no other way
And our love would rule, this kingdom we have made
Till then I'll be a fool, wishin' for the day

That I can change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

I could change the world,
I would be the sunlight in your universe.
You would think my love was really something good,
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.
Baby if I could change the world.

blue eyes blue

by : Eric Clapton

I thought that you'd be loving me.
I thought you were the one whod stay forever.
But now forevers come and gone
And Im still here alone.

Cause you were only playing,
You were only playing with my heart.
I was never waiting,
I was never waiting for the tears to start.

It was you who put the clouds around me.
It was you who made the tears fall down.
It was you who broke my heart in pieces.
It was you, it was you who made my blue eyes blue.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.

I thought that I'd be all you need.
In your eyes I thought I saw my heaven.
And now my heavens gone away
And Im out in the cold.

Cause you had me believing,
You had me believing in a lie.
Guess I couldnt see it,
I guess I couldnt see it till I saw goodbye.

Chorus

Cause you were only playing,
You were only playing with my heart.
I was never waiting,
I was never waiting for the tears to start.

It was you who put the clouds around me.
It was you.

Chorus

Oh, I never should have trusted you.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.
Oh, I never should have trusted you.

The Hangover Part II – review

The headache has truly set in for the laboured and self-conscious The Hangover Part II. It's more a remake than a sequel

Hangover 2
Hair of the dog ... Zack Galifianakis Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms. Photograph: Melinda Sue Gordon
We all enjoyed ourselves during that first movie. But now … well, the hangover has begun. And begun so powerfully, so oppressively, that you might almost suspect the success of the original was created specifically to engender this comedown as a piece of conceptual art. Each reminder of the original, each repetition, each desperate, hair-of-the-dog attempt to recapture the party feeling: it's exactly like living through a hungover flashback-memory of what had once seemed so great.
  1. The Hangover Part II
  2. Production year: 2011
  3. Country: USA
  4. Cert (UK): 15
  5. Runtime: 102 mins
  6. Directors: Todd Phillips
  7. Cast: Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Jamie Chung, Justin Bartha, Ken Jeong, Mike Tyson, Paul Giamatti, Zach Galifianakis
  8. More on this film
In Hollywood, said William Goldman, nobody knows anything. Who knew The Hangover, from fratpack comedy director Todd Phillips, was going to be such a huge hit? Nobody – perhaps not even the people involved. The story of a Vegas bachelor party that goes horribly wrong looked pretty ropey on paper, and yet it was great. Some thought it was sort of a monkey-typing-Hamlet fluke, but it's actually the sort of fluke that only happens to smart people who keep trying.
The Hangover was funny and the structure was daring. Act one: pre-party – then we jump straight to act three, post-party, and the movie is about the bleary, amnesiac guys trying to piece together act two: what the hell happened? This is not definitively revealed until the sequence of digital photos over the final credits. Brilliant! It showed the spirit of movies like The Usual Suspects or Reservoir Dogs.Bradley Cooper had the chops – he had been a forgettable, almost invisible presence in many movies before this, but he blossomed in H1. There were some cracking comedy turns. Zach Galifianakis was great as the weirdo brother-in-law Alan and Ken Jeong was a real find as the abusive comedy gangster Mr Chow. Everything came together.
Sadly, H2 can't even quite claim the credit of being the first Hangover sequel: the road-movie comedy Due Date, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr, attempted to cash in on its success, none too successfully. At least it tried a vaguely different plot. Hangover Part II seeks only to repeat almost every element of the first movie. It's not a sequel, closer to a shot-for-shot remake. This time, the guys go to Thailand for a wedding, in the same shark-jumping way that the Sex and the City girls whooshed off to Abu Dhabi for their profoundly depressing sequel. It feels a bit like a feature-length Christmas special of a well-loved British sitcom.
The original's quirks have now become a formula. The grim daytime shots of Vegas at the beginning are now grim daytime shots of Bangkok; the tiger is now a monkey; there's a different sequence of photos over the final credits. Pretty much everything has its equivalent. Infuriatingly, all the fun has been drained from the movie, simply in repeating almost every trick. The same: but lame, and lame because the same.
Now it's the nerdy dentist Stu (Ed Helms) getting hitched, to a beautiful Thai woman Lauren (Jamie Chung), whose father hates Stu. Slightly insultingly for Justin Barth, his character Doug was the groom-to-be who disappeared in the first movie but he doesn't get a turn at participating in the hi-jinks now.
Stu stays in the story and Barth's nice-but-dull character is sidelined. Stu's goofiness is evidently considered more important to the action, and Phillips perhaps considers that the gang already has a handsome guy in the form of Cooper's Phil. Now it's the bride's sweet younger brother Teddy who tags along on the stag night, disappears, and has to be found at all costs, because he is the apple of his father's eye: he is played by 21-year-old Mason Lee, son of the director Ang Lee. Jeong and Galifianakis seem very subdued and under-par compared to their earlier appearances.
Then there's the question of the big non-PC cameo to match Mike Tyson's bizarre performance in the original. Rumours have been rife. We had heard about Mel Gibson (that idea was abandoned), Liam Neeson (reportedly cut) and even Bill Clinton.
Actually, Paul Giamatti makes an appearance as a bad-tempered tough guy, but this isn't the big cameo – that comes in the form of the celebrity booked to sing at Stu's wedding. You may be hoping for Liza Minnelli. Well, no spoilers, but suffice it to say, this too is a bit of a letdown.
Making The Hangover Part II must have been like going up to a great guitarist who'd just pulled off a brilliant improvised solo, and telling him he had to repeat the performance the next night, note-for-note. The result is self-conscious to say the least.
I have to admit that there are one or two nice lines. When the guys gather outside Alan's bedroom, preparing to invite him along, Jeffrey Tambor, playing Alan's father, tells them to "Go in slowly; let him acclimatise." When Stu defiantly claims: "There's a demon in me!", Alan hits him with a zinging comeback in the bad-taste spirit of the first film. Flashes of fun like this are rare. It's a sobering experience.

CHEVRON

Providing Energy for Human Progress

Chevron is one of the world's leading integrated energy companies, with subsidiaries that conduct business worldwide. Our success is driven by our people and their unrelenting focus on delivering results the right way—by operating responsibly, executing with excellence, applying innovative technologies and capturing new opportunities for profitable growth. We are involved in virtually every facet of the energy industry. We explore for, produce and transport crude oil and natural gas; refine, market and distribute transportation fuels and lubricants; manufacture and sell petrochemical products; generate power and produce geothermal energy; provide energy efficiency solutions; and develop the energy resources of the future, including biofuels.

Company Roots

We trace our beginnings to an 1879 oil discovery at Pico Canyon, north of Los Angeles, which led to the formation of the Pacific Coast Oil Co. That company later became Standard Oil Co. of California and, subsequently, Chevron. We took on the name Chevron when we acquired Gulf Oil Corp. in 1984, nearly doubling our worldwide proved oil and gas reserves. Our merger with Gulf was at that time the largest in U.S. history.
Another major branch of the family tree is The Texas Fuel Company, formed in Beaumont, Texas, in 1901. It later became known as The Texas Company and eventually Texaco. In 2001, our two companies merged. The acquisition of Unocal Corporation in 2005 strengthened Chevron's position as an energy industry leader, increasing our crude oil and natural gas assets around the world.

Global Scope

Our diverse and highly skilled global workforce consists of approximately 58,000 employees and about 4,000 service station employees.
In 2010, Chevron produced 2.763 million barrels of net oil-equivalent per day, 2 percent higher than in 2009. About 75 percent of that volume occurred outside the United States. Chevron had a global refining capacity of more than 2 million barrels of oil per day at the end of 2010.
Our marketing network supports retail outlets on six continents. And we have invested in 13 power-generating facilities in the United States and Asia.

Technology and Emerging Energy

Technology is propelling our growth. We're focusing on technologies that improve our chances of finding, developing and producing crude oil and natural gas.
We also are investing in the development of emerging energy technologies, such as finding better ways to make nonfood-based biofuels, integrating advanced solar technology into our operations and expanding our renewable energy resources.

Environment and Safety

As a company and as individuals, we take great pride in contributing to the communities where we live and work.
We also care about the environment and are proud of the many ways in which our employees work to safeguard it.
Our persistent efforts to improve on our safe work environment continue to pay off. In 2010, Chevron achieved our safest year ever, setting new safety records in the days-away-from-work performance in both Upstream and Downstream operations.

Our Work

We recognize that the world needs all the energy we can develop, in every potential form. That's why our employees work daily to find newer, cleaner ways to power the world.

Text BahasaIndonesia ·

Kau bilang Adam berdosa gara-gara hasutanku?
Kalau begitu, atas hasutan siapa aku melakukan dosa?
Aku sebenarnya melakukan apa yang Dia perintahkan, dan aku sepenuhnya patuh pada keinginan Allah.
Mau bagaimana lagi? Tak ada ruang yang luput dari kuasa-Nya.
Aku bukanlah tuan bagi keinginanku sendiri.
Aku menyembah Allah selama 700 ribu tahun!
The Madness of God penting dibaca oleh para monoteis yang kritis.
Shawni meramu adikaryanya ini dengan gayanya yang amat unik dan khas. Novel ini, terlepas dari judulnya yang provokatif, merupakan usaha Shawni dalam menyelaraskan keimanannya dengan akalnya.

something new

and someone who found that key on those corner
something that i can smell a wonderful spirit
then it shake my heart till beating
dance and sing
we have no choice to take it
while everybody feels so busy
you're just come and hang on my sign
holding true to the skypark
like something that i dunno what it is
just new and i could feel again

nothing gonna chane my love for you--saxophone version by kaori kobayashi

a Good Engineer :)

Make it happen, or wonder what happened

An important part of engineering is proving something will work before it's built. Would you drive across a new bridge if the chief engineer said, "This bridge is sure pretty, but I don't know how many vehicles it can support. Lets send a bunch of cars across and see what happens. If we notice any cracks, we'll slap on some duct tape." Part of the engineer's job is to design the bridge to safely support the expected vehicle weight, and withstand expected earthquakes, winds and water levels. Civil engineers "prove" a bridge design with calculations based on anticipated stresses, strength of the materials, and construction techniques. Despite the engineers best efforts, bridges still occasionally collapse, possibly due to extreme stress beyond what could reasonably be anticipated, defective materials, construction "shortcuts", or long term wear with inadequate maintenance.

Anticipate and prepare, or wait and react

Careful carpenters say "measure twice, cut once". Good engineers think things through twice, and design once. Those who don't often end up like the reckless carpenter who laments, "I've cut it three times and it's still too short."

You want it when?

Software engineering is especially easy to do badly, and quite difficult to do well. It's tempting to create folders of source code files, and then "try it and see what happens". If it crashes, just patch it with the software equivalent of duct tape, or the latest industry/management buzzword. Oh well, everyone expected it to be late anyway, and customers are used to bugs and feature-challenged first releases.

Is next month OK?

Good software design is a process of continual reengineering. The complexities of most programs make it very unlikely that an engineer can fully comprehend everything at once. The first round of "calculations" might be like an overall outline, showing which components are needed to get the job done, and how they will fit together. A more refined analysis should consider which components are totally new to this project and are most likely to contain unintended consequences or unanticipated limitations. Refining and testing these critical sections should be followed by reconsidering the overall structure. It's also important to consider which sections might slow down overall performance, and design those sections as separate modules that can be optimized as needed without changing much else. This process repeats, working through the various levels, while continually reevaluating the overall design. The design evolves quickly because "surprises" are found and fixed early, as are major changes to the overall design. The final program will be flexible, modular, easy to understand and flexible enough to accept enhancements to one part of the program without causing problems elsewhere. Oh, and by the way, it will be ready on time and a pleasure to use.

Testing – It’s not just for customers

Testing isn't "watching it work". Meticulous testing should be part of the design process and includes methodically seeking out problems by identifying likely bug habitat. More complexity requires more thorough testing. Subjecting the code to "stress tests" by considering unlikely scenarios and alternate paths through the code helps identify problems before the official testers try it out. Testing by others who may know nothing of the program's inner workings can be helpful, but the testers need guidance so they don't just keep repeating the same successful tasks while overlooking more obscure features or combinations that may never get tested.

The quick fix

Despite everyone's best efforts, problems occasionally sneak through. A well designed program is easy to diagnose and fix without creating new problems elsewhere. The fixing process is just an extended design cycle, and should be approached the same way. There are only so many problems lurking inside the code. Each one found and fixed puts the design one step closer to perfection.

Make all the improvements you want to – just don’t change anything

Sometimes after extensive changes to the inner workings of a design, it becomes clear that a high-level reorganization would provide significant benefits. These high-level changes take time, but not making them usually leads to even more low-level changes and added complexity. The total time to a fully functional design is often reduced after doing the necessary cleanup throughout the program, and future changes and fixes will go much quicker. A thorough house-cleaning may also eliminate other mysterious, nagging problems that previously defied all attempts at a fix. An occasional review may also lead to new insights and potential improvements.

Poetic license

Is engineering art or science? Grammar or poetry? Meticulously following the rules may produce a sturdy but ugly bridge. A fanciful design might look beautiful, but collapse in the first breeze. Good engineers understand both concepts, and seek new applications for traditional rules and develop new rules to prove an innovative design. Although software doesn't have a visible physical structure, similar principles apply to the overall program organization. Like the good civil engineer who designs a sturdy bridge that's truly beautiful in its elegant simplicity, a good software or hardware engineer finds simple, fundamental relationships between each part of the design. Discovering these simple, but often hidden relationships helps good engineers develop a flexible "toolkit" that not only speeds the current design, but provides reliable components for the future. The ability to seek and discover these "hidden" relationships is a skill that applies to any technology and often leads to simpler designs. Simplicity often mean fewer "parts", which means fewer potential problems, and designs that are smaller, better, faster and cheaper.

Been there, done that

Experience is important, as long as each experience involves more than simply repeating the same mistakes. Like good engineering, experience has multiple levels. Understanding a particular component or technique may be relevant to future designs, but understanding the underlying principles can be even more important. Many components and techniques are "variations on a theme", or simply combine things that were previously independent. Understanding the underlying concepts usually leads to a very short learning curve when using something new. The reverse is seldom true. A solid understanding of the fundamentals become extremely important when a problem occurs, or the design is too slow, too big, or too expensive. A good engineer will often find a way to rearrange things, or tweak one part of the design without creating new problems elsewhere.

Haven't been there ... yet

The best engineers are problem solvers and innovators. It can save some time if they've already solved exactly the same problem, but the latest problem may be different in some way. Good engineers may find a solution based on similar experiences, or invent a totally new solution. They look at the "traditional" capabilities of a system or component, and see new, untapped potential. The "grammar" of engineering is most easily learned. A good engineer may need only a few days to learn about a new component or technique, and has the ability to apply fundamental technical knowledge within the context of an overall design. Learning the "poetry" of engineering requires much more time and effort, but allows good engineers to incorporate new concepts into original and elegant solutions.
